Are asylum seekers and refugees provided with appropriate mental health support in the United Kingdom?

Over 220,000 asylum seekers and refugees (ASR) lived in the United Kingdom 2021. Traumatic experiences during different phases of migration process make people seeking vulnerable to mental health conditions, including post-traumatic stress depression. Assessments conducted by various local authorities since 2016 need improve ASR’s access appropriate support, but lack clarity on how achieve this. This article explores perceptions support needs for ASR, contrasts them service provision. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews with nine ASR six individuals who provide wellbeing living Brighton Hove, analysed thematic analysis using NVivo. Three main themes emerged, relating holistic disjunctive between perceived available barriers accessing existing services. Findings highlight holistic, specialised, culturally sensitive sustainable illustrate training healthcare receptionists rights entitlements greater services coordination can help strengthen their wellbeing.
